Rape of man, duo sentenced to 20 years, Hanover

The Northern Cape Police Management welcomed the 20 year prison sentence handed down on a duo, accused of raping an adult male in Hanover. In August 2020, the victim was walking to his residence when Vickus Piet Mattheus (19) together with his accomplice Jonny Booksen (23) grabbed and dragged him behind a local filling station and took turns raping him.

The victim managed to break free and alerted the police about the rape incident. The pair were arrested, and the investigating officer Constable Ngcaphayi successfully opposed bail. They were remanded in police custody until the trial was concluded.

On Friday, 5 March 2021 De Aar Regional Court found Vickus and Jonny guilty and sentenced them to effective 20 years imprisonment on count of rape.

The Police Management in the Northern Cape commended Investigating Officer Ngcaphayi for the outstanding and successful investigative work into this case. And continued to applaud the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and the Department of Justice (DoJ) for restoring hope and faith for the victims of crime, by making sure that perpetrators are removed from society.
